Term:2020-2024

My name is Sylvia Guanajuato Rodriguez and I am a native of Eloy. As a lifelong resident of this community, I have had the privilege of getting to know many Eloyians personally or professionally in various roles I have served and through my commitment and passion to serve.

I am a graduate of Santa Cruz High School, attended Central Arizona College, and later earned my Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Phoenix.  I am currently employed with Pinal County Attorney’s Office, Eloy Family Advocacy Center as a Victim Advocate.

I serve on various committees and coalitions including Eloy Governor’s Alliance Against Drugs, Fiestas Patrias Corazon de Latinos Unidos, Pinal County Sexual and Domestic Violence Coalition, Pinal County Inter-Agency Council To End Child Abuse, and volunteer as a Coach with Taz Boxing Club. I am also a graduate of the 2013 Valle Del Sol, Hispanic Leadership Institute-Pinal.

My professional work experience includes: working for Central Arizona College as, Immigration Attorney in Florence, Corrections Corporations of America Eloy Detention Center, Eloy Municipal Court, as a Children’s Case Manager as well as a Community Outreach Worker for Pinal Hispanic Council Behavioral Health Services; where I provided coordination of care and social support services for children and families.  Reading Interventionist for K-3rd grades for the Eloy Elementary School District, and as a Home-Based service provider to children and families with Pinal-Gila Community Child Services.

Like many of my fellow citizens, my journey has been inspired by my experience growing up locally.

At 17 years old, I placed third in the nation in the 2000 Women’s National Golden Glove boxing tournament in the 132lb weight class. Boxing wasn't just an activity to keep me busy as a youngster, it taught me many valuable life lessons and helped shape the person I am today.  It showed me the discipline of working to achieve a goal, sportsmanship, mental strength, and heart to get back up when you’ve been knocked down; but most importantly it gave me a sense of belonging and pride in being part of a family tradition that has represented my hometown locally and nationally. I know firsthand how important extracurricular activities and sports are for our community’s youth.

I come from a large familia and I’m very family oriented. We love to travel, cook, laugh, and celebrate life together.

My vision and desire as your Eloy City Councilwoman are to bring our community together through collaboration and emphasis on common goals of unity and commonality amongst all people in an effort to bridge the gap of communication and foster development. I will also prioritize building opportunities for community members to learn new career & technical trades, engage in life-long learning activities, and expand social and emotional support systems for all Eloyians to thrive today and in the 21st-century economy.
